Mozart's Has Until Christmas Eve: Clintonville's Fall on North High, Weekend by Weekend

October 8, 2026

The building at 4784 N. High St. opened in 1930 as the Beechwold Tavern. Since then it has held three restaurants, Cord Camera and Azia Oriental Rugs. Its current tenant, Mozart's Bakery & Piano Café, will close on Dec. 24 so that owners Anand and Doris Saha can retire. As of today, Oct. 4, that leaves 81 days.

Most coverage has treated this as a bakery story: almond scones, apple strudel, chicken schnitzel. The bigger loss for the neighborhood is the room. The Sahas' building has also been a place where Clintonville gathers, and the fall 2026 calendar shows how much of the neighborhood's year still runs through it.

A Bakery That Doubled as the Neighborhood's Event Hall

Mozart's opened at 2885 N. High St. in 1995 and moved about three miles north to its current building in 2013. The Clintonville Spotlight describes the building as a community gathering place that has hosted weddings, receptions, community parties and nonprofit events, along with its baked goods and fine dining.

Taste of Clintonville is the clearest example. The Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center held this year's Taste at Mozart's on Thursday, Oct. 1, and its event page said it "may be the last Taste of Clintonville hosted at Mozart's." Participants included Aladdin's Eatery, Allora Kitchen, Bleu & Fig, Buckeye Lady, Brenz Pizza, Cakes and More, Colonial Candy and Fusian. Eight neighborhood food businesses under one roof is a scale that needs a room this size, and the building has 10,933 square feet.

The Sahas' farewell note on the Mozart's website stays close to home:

"Doris and I remain committed to Clintonville and the greater Columbus community. You'll still see us supporting the local events, causes and organizations that help our community to thrive. Auf Wiedersehen!"

What Is Known About the Building's Next Chapter

Over the summer, the building looked like it had a clear future. In late July, the Sahas announced a pending sale to 1831 Management, the group that owns the Worthington Inn. The Spotlight credits the group with buying and restoring the historic inn. The plan was to keep the name "Mozart's Building" and fill it with a mix of tenants. Jerry DiPizzo, one of the 1831 partners, told the Spotlight the group was considering "everything from retail to health care and everything in between." The Sahas also had the option of running a smaller bakery and coffee shop in part of the building.

None of that is the plan anymore. On Sept. 23, NBC4, citing Columbus Business First, reported that the 1831 deal had fallen through. The Sahas' news release mentioned new owners without naming them, and no property transfer had yet appeared on the Franklin County Auditor's website. The tenant mix, the smaller bakery option and the preserved name all came from the earlier deal, so none of them should be read as what happens after Christmas Eve.

What remains certain is the closing date. Anyone hoping to use the building as it is now has a fixed deadline.

Eighty-One Days on North High

This list runs in date order from today. Several events take place at Mozart's itself. The rest are along the same High Street corridor the bakery has anchored on the north end.

  1. Saturdays through Nov. 21, 9 a.m. to noon. The Clintonville Farmers Market runs its outdoor season at 3535 N. High St. Counting from today, seven market Saturdays remain, ending with Nov. 7, Nov. 14 and Nov. 21.
  2. Friday, Oct. 16, 5 to 8 p.m. The Clintonville Jamboree, held every third Friday, covers a walkable mile of North High with local shops, pop-up vendors, food trucks and live music.
  3. Saturday, Oct. 24. The Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center holds its Pumpkin Patch, with cider, food, crafts and games. A pumpkin costs a $10 donation or five canned goods.
  4. Thursday, Oct. 29, 6 to 8 p.m. This is Columbus trick-or-treat as listed in Experience Columbus' 2026 roundup. The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission recommends the same date for the region but leaves the final call to each community.
  5. Friday, Nov. 20, 5 to 8 p.m. The November Jamboree.
  6. Saturday, Nov. 28, 1 to 4 p.m. Mozart's hosts its International Christmas Tea, along with a Christmas Market Sale of vintage décor, collectibles and holiday treasures. The same day is also Small Business Saturday on the Experience Clintonville calendar.
  7. Sunday, Dec. 6, 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. HolidayVille, with the Jinglue Bus running from South to North Clintonville and festivities leading up to a tree lighting. The Sahas have invited guests to Mozart's that day to toast 31 years.
  8. Friday, Dec. 18, 5 to 8 p.m. The December Jamboree.
  9. Thursday, Dec. 24. Mozart's last day.

Two details are not published yet. Experience Clintonville has not posted the time or exact location of the HolidayVille tree lighting. The Experience Clintonville calendar also does not list a Clintonville Halloween parade or a North High business trick-or-treat this year.

Until Dec. 24, Mozart's says its menu favorites from Wiener Schnitzel to Apple Strudel are still available, along with its wine tastings.

December Is Adding Another Indoor Room

The market calendar changes in December. Common Greens, which runs the Clintonville Farmers Market, will host its first Clintonville Holiday Market inside North Broadway United Methodist Church on Saturdays Dec. 5, 12 and 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will feature locally grown and produced food and local artists.

This new indoor market lands in the same month Mozart's closes. No source connects the two. Still, by Dec. 19 the neighborhood will have one more indoor gathering place on its calendar than it did a year ago, and in five days it will lose one it has relied on since 2013.

The Whetstone Community Center at 3923 N. High St. runs its fall program session through Nov. 21, the same day as the last outdoor farmers market. That puts two of the corridor's regular weekly routines on the same end date, and both fall before Mozart's final month begins.

Newer Counters Along the Same Stretch

North High has added businesses this year. They serve different purposes than a 10,933-square-foot hall with a piano café inside it.

In a May 1 story, NBC4 reported that Fox in the Snow would open its Clintonville café at 4203 N. High St. that Saturday, May 2. Playa Bowls is now operating at 4422 N. High St., with daily hours on its location page. Both are south of Mozart's on the same road, so a coffee or bowl on the way to a Christmas Tea or the HolidayVille toast is easy to work in.

One opening is still pending. Nusantara Indo Kitchen, an Indonesian restaurant planned for 3250 N. High St., was described as "slated to open soon" in 614NOW's July 14 coverage. No later confirmation that it has opened turned up.

In August, Anand Saha told the Spotlight what he is looking forward to: "I am looking forward to visiting the farmers market on Saturdays and being able to make weekend plans." That market runs Saturdays at 3535 N. High St. through Nov. 21, more than a month before his bakery's last day.
